This rare protective mask was employed in military training exercises during the First World War, particularly in the instruction of bayonet combat. The design features a heavy gauge wire cage forming the face guard, reinforced with vertical bars at the mouth opening. Beneath, a quilted canvas bib provided protection to the neck and chest, while a leather strap secured
